A New Post

So I've been lagging on posting something new of late. It's been a rather uneventful couple of weeks, at least until last weekend. Plus, when I have no new photos to share, I hesitate to post anything. A post without photos, at least on this blog, is kind of like peanut butter without jelly.

I've been riding my bike and running more lately, which has me feeling better. I'm trying to get my arm in condition for normal exercise again, in addition to the cardiovascular stuff. I'll be glad when I can do some light weightlifting and work on upper body strength again.

I'm taking next week off, and I'll be heading up to Bass Lake for July 4th. Miles, Lisa, my mom and my aunt Linda are planning on being there at the same time. Afterward, my idea is to visit San Francisco and Sacramento, but I'll play it by ear. I just hope it's a relaxing, fun and interesting week off.

Last Saturday I drove down to San Juan Capistrano, one of my favorite towns. I parked there and rode my bike down to Doheny State Beach, just hoping to catch some rays and do some swimming. Turns out there was a celebration of Doheny's 75th anniversary, with a classic woody and antique trailer show, and I was wishing I hadn't left my camera in the car. There were some beautiful cars, and some really cool old trailers in incredible condition. There were a few teardrop trailers, some of which were very cool modern versions. I wouldn't mind having one of those someday.

As part of the celebration, there was also a longboard surfing contest. Being there at Doheny made me think about (for the millionth time) getting back into surfing. I used to do it regularly for about 2 years when I was in my early twenties, and I often miss it. Unfortunately, it would take few bucks and some time to really get back into it. Maybe if I try a 4/10 work schedule (10 hours a day M-Th, Fridays off), I'll give it a go.

After an hour or so on the beach, I rode back to Capistrano to walk around, take some photos and grab a bite at El Campeon, one of my favorite Mexican places. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon.

Saturday night, our family friends the Fergusons had a birthday party for a member of their family, a very sweet lady named Betty. As usual, the food was great, the company fun, and as a bonus, the guests were entertained by not one but two Elvises (or is it Elvi?)! It was a fun night- thanks so much to the Fergusons for including me and my family in their celebration.

I'll end this entry with a quote from The King himself:

Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.

Dude, where can I get myself an Elvis shirt like that!? ;) Good times! It's neat to see that your family can so easily (and willingly) get together for events like this. I can tell that you have a great family, Eric.

Hey, have a good time at Bass Lake. Sorry that we can't join you this time but we do hope that we'll be able to next time. Relax and enjoy!! We'll see you soon in Sacramento. Take care man!
