Lest We Forget

The above photo was taken at 11 am this Memorial Day, as vintage U.S. fighter planes flew above Orange. Many years ago, the hum of their engines must have struck fear into many enemies of freedom, while being music to the ears of those who yearned to be free.

These planes are not merely relics of times gone by; they still serve a purpose. On this day, they are a reminder of why almost all of are enjoying a day off. We abstain from work today in honor of those who sacrificed their lives for the United States of America, and for the freedom of people all over the world.

As Americans, we are free today because so many of our countrymen were willing to risk their lives for their country. Don't forget who is responisble for the freedoms, rights and security you take for granted on a daily basis. Remember them. And be grateful.

Also remember that we have sons and daughters sacrificing their lives right now. They need to be recognized, honored and appreciated, no matter how unpopular the current war may be.

It's chilling to see the faces of those fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan, especially considering that all are brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, and doing it in the name of giving freedom to us all. You're right, Eric, we need to be grateful for the sacrifice.

This is a very nice post, Eric. It is true that we take advantage of all of the freedoms which we enjoy today...It's somewhat frightening how numb people today seem to be to the war...It's important to remember and respect those (often young teens and adults) who have fought fearlessly for our Country...
