As I opened a can of Rosarita refried beans today, I wondered- whatever happened to bean dip? I know it's still around, but it doesn't seem to be as popular as it was years ago. Maybe it just fell out of favor in my family. I remember it being around for almost every party when I was a kid, but it hasn't made an appearance in quite a long time. I guess salsa and guacamole have replaced it. In fact, did you know that salsa recently replaced ketchup as America's favorite condiment?
Anyway, I really like beans. Red, black, pink, white, pinto- it all works for me. They really are one of my favorite foods. And they're good for you, too. Of course, there can be some unpleasant after effects, but everything comes with a price, right?
This was a pretty relaxing weekend. It's been pretty hot during the day, but it makes for really nice evenings. I went to Downtown Fullerton with my friend Faryal on Saturday night, where we met up with some of her friends. Although I've gone there once in awhile over the years, I only recently discovered with Cory and Farah how much is actually going on in Fullerton. Angelo and Vinci's has been a favorite restaurant of mine for many years, and there have always been some bars to cater to the college crowd, but it seems in the last year or so there has been some major growth. There are a lot of bars and restaurants, and quite a few people hanging out in an otherwise quiet, quaint little area. The nightlife there was a pleasant surprise.
I'm finally getting some exercise again, now that my arm is getting better. It's still only about 70% back to normal, which is a bit frustrating. I broke it a little over two months ago, and though it's steadily getting better, the progress is really slow. Anyway, I'm back on my bike, did some running, and recently swam as well. I'm finally able to do a couple of push-ups, which is a big step. I really need to get the strength back in my arm, which could have used some work even before I broke it.
The rent situation seems to have been resolved, which is a big relief for me. Although the new lease needs to be finalized and signed, it looks as though I'm going to be able to stay in my apartment. I did not expect that to happen, so it was a pleasant surprise. The owner came down to speak to me in person early last week, and long story short, we worked it out. I have to pay more than I was hoping to, but it's much less than what he originally asked for. The rent for me now is merely acceptable, not great. But, I really like this place and I'm glad I don't have to go through the hassle and expense of finding a new place and moving.
I'll end this fairly random entry with a fairly random Chinese proverb, followed by recent and fairly random photos. Until next time...
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Ahhhh, the ol' bean dip - I remember it well!! Brings to mind popping open the can of bean dip and Fritos at the all day marathon beach days at the lake!! I remember Lisa loving it the most (and me lovin' the Fritos the most!).
Terrific photos. I'm always amazed when I see your beautiful photos of so many of the simple things we see everyday. It makes me "stop to smell the roses."
I'm real happy too that you don't have to move. It's tough having to pay more rent but that seems to go with being at the mercy of landlords.
Looking forward to the next post.
I like bean dip too. I definitely don't buy it though. It's probably pricey for what you get, so if I do anything with beans, I can simply make my own. Oh, and Ranch dip and Onion Dip (the type that you mix into sour cream) are definitely some of my favorites.
Glad to hear that you get to stay in your apartment. Very cool.
